Open to responsible mining

KUANTAN: Pahang is open to further exploration and mining of its vast and rich mineral resources.
Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob however emphasised the importance of responsible mining and sustainable development when carrying out such activities.
“Pahang is a state blessed with abundant minerals such as tin, iron ore, gold and bauxite.
“It is important to ensure best practices in mineral extraction is emphasised to ensure sustainable development,” he said after opening the Conference on Sustainable Development and Responsible Mineral Resource Development in Malaysia at a hotel here.

Adnan said there was good global demand for the processing of mineral resources which had yet to be explored fully in the state.
“The mineral resource industry remains sluggish because there has not been much exploration and due to the lack of capacity in terms of capital and expertise.
“We welcome anybody who has the knowledge and expertise to come to Pahang and explore the possibility of working together with the state.”
Adnan hoped the conference would be able to improve the image of the mineral resource industry and provide a better understanding of the concept of responsible mining while protecting the environment.
Dr Ajib said the conference would address issues affecting the industry, how to resolve them and ensure that mineral resource development is undertaken in a responsible and sustainable manner.
